About Shale Markets

Shale Markets is an independent daily briefing for people who work in oil and gas and need to know what happened without reading the whole internet to find out.

Every weekday we read across the trade press, regulatory filings, and market coverage, then publish what matters — sorted into drilling, policy, markets, midstream, and technology. Each story carries a short editorial note. Not a summary of the article, but a read on what it signals: for operators, for capital allocation, for the basins you actually care about.

What we publish

The daily briefing. Weekday mornings, the stories that moved, grouped by what they affect.

Basin coverage. Standing pages for any basins that we have news stories for. As more basins are mentioned in the news, they will be added to our basin list.

Original analysis. When we have something to say the wires haven't already said.

How we work

We link straight to the original publisher, every time. We don't republish other people's articles, we don't wrap their reporting in our own page, and we don't ask you to read a copy of a story when the story itself is one click away.

What we add is selection and context — deciding what's worth your morning, and saying why. That's the entire product.

Operators, midstream, oilfield services, investors, and the analysts and advisors working alongside them. If you need to walk into Monday knowing what happened last week, that's who we write for.

Who we are

Shale Markets is edited by owner Ray Pader. Ray has owned Shale Markets for over 20 years. In 2026, Shale Markets underwent an overhaul to get ahead of today's technology. As a result, we have created a far advanced newsletter and have added original content to our site.

We're published by Red Rocks Consultants and we're independent. No operator, service company, or investor holds any interest in what we cover or how we cover it.
